AirPods Max 2 carried a different official price in each of the eight Apple stores this site tracks. The live range below converts every tax-inclusive listing at a dated reference rate; the US and Canadian prices are left out of it because they exclude sales tax.

USD values use dated reference exchange rates (retrieved 2026-11-05), not a card rate. Markets whose shelf price excludes checkout tax are left out of this range.
A bigger price tag makes the country gap larger in money terms, but it also raises the stakes on everything else: the import tax if you go over a traveler allowance, a warranty claim far from the store, and lithium battery rules if you ship rather than carry.
The prices in local currency
| Market | Listed price | Tax basis | Tax inside | Price before tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Japan | JPY 89,800 | Includes 10% consumption tax | JPY 8,164 | JPY 81,636 |
| United Arab Emirates | AED 2,099 | Includes 5% VAT | AED 99.95 | AED 1,999.05 |
| Singapore | SGD 749 | Includes 9% GST | SGD 61.84 | SGD 687.16 |
| Germany | EUR 579 | Includes 19% VAT | EUR 92.45 | EUR 486.55 |
| United Kingdom | GBP 499 | Includes 20% VAT | GBP 83.17 | GBP 415.83 |
| Australia | AUD 999 | Includes 10% GST | AUD 90.82 | AUD 908.18 |
| United States | USD 549 | Before sales tax | Added at checkout | USD 549 |
| Canada | CAD 799 | Before GST/HST and provincial tax | Added at checkout | CAD 799 |
The tax column is the ceiling on any refund, worked out as price × rate ÷ (1 + rate). Nobody receives the full amount through an operator-run scheme, and in Great Britain a visitor carrying goods home receives nothing back at all.

A refund example, and why it is smaller than it looks
The UAE is the one market here where the operator’s deductions are published on the authority page this site checked. Applying them to the AED 2,099 listing:
| VAT inside AED 2,099 at 5% | AED 99.95 |
|---|---|
| After the 13% deduction | 99.95 × 0.87 = AED 86.96 |
| After the AED 3.60 transaction fee | AED 83.36 |
| Share of the price returned | About 4.0% |
That assumes you are eligible, the store takes part and the export is validated within the scheme’s deadline. For Japan, Singapore, Germany and Australia the operator figures come from the store or operator quote; put them into the tourist refund calculator rather than assuming the whole tax column comes back. The guide to how tourist refunds work covers the steps.
Coming home with a pair
At this price, a traveler allowance is easy to exceed. Under the Great Britain rule, the £390 other-goods allowance for commercial air or sea arrivals is a threshold: go over it and tax and duty are due on the full value. A pair bought abroad would be assessed in full, together with anything else in the same category. The allowance checker shows the difference between that and the common mistake of taxing only the excess.
Shipping instead of carrying changes the sums again. A tourist refund does not apply to freight, carriers can restrict lithium batteries, and duty and import tax are charged on the goods plus freight and insurance. The import duty calculator follows that order, and the parcel forwarding guide lists the extra fees.
Before buying abroad
- Confirm the generation and the included accessories. Original AirPods Max and AirPods Max 2 are different products.
- Translation and other software features vary by region and device. Check the retailer’s specification sheet for the country where you will use them.
- Manufacturer warranty and statutory consumer rights differ by country. Ask how service works where you live before paying.
- Count the trip honestly. The trip break-even calculator subtracts travel costs from the saving.
The AirPods Max 2 price page keeps the full table with source links. Prices are dated observations, not stock checks, and hardware observations are flagged after seven days.
